Our proofreaders work from a set of guidelines that describe the process that all services should meet. You are welcome to provide notes to our proofreading experts to meet certain specific objectives that you wish to achieve, although these are not guaranteed should they not conform to our internal criteria. Our proofreading / copy-editing guidelines include:
- Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalisation errors
- Checking and revising word choice
- Revising issues of clarity, concision or consistency within the document
- Making sure the tone and writing style befits the purpose of the document
- Ensuring that the English used in the document is UK English (We do not transpose documents into American / Australian English)
- Making revisions to improve the overall quality of the document
- Reorganising paragraphs and / or the structure of the document where required
In respect of proofreading services, upon receipt of your document we will conduct a cursory examination to ascertain the exact number of words, the preferred timescale in which you require the document returned, and the amount of editing work which we anticipate will be necessary. We will then raise an invoice based upon these factors (your quotation) which we will send to you by return email. Receipt of your payment will be taken as confirmation from you to instruct our services at which point these terms and conditions together with our privacy notice will form the basis of our contract. The timescale required will be in effect from receipt of payment. In addition to the above, in respect of copywriting services, payment will be taken as confirmation that both the client and MMI Consultancy are in accord as to the specification of the document required. If you do not provide accurate contact information, or if you do not respond promptly if we require further information, we cannot be responsible for delays in providing the service to you.
All quotations and payments will be in Pounds Sterling (£).
For lengthier projects, it may be possible to facilitate stage payments to be agreed by MMI Consultancy and the client. In these cases, the client gives authority for MMI Consultancy to carry out any due diligence on the client including but not limited to credit checking. Any payments more than 30 days past due may be subject to an administration charge of £25 and interest at a rate of 1.5% above Bank of England base rate per month thereafter.
When you send emails to us, you are communicating with us electronically, therefore you consent to receive electronic communications from us. We may communicate with you via email or by posting notices on this website. You agree that all agreements, notices, disclosures, and other communications that we provide to you electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
Cancellation and Refusal
If there is a serious breach of these terms and conditions by either the client or MMI Consultancy, either party has the right to terminate all contractual obligations. In the case of a serious breach by the client, there will be no refund whatsoever to the client. In the case of a serious breach by MMI, a full refund will be given to the client.
If a client wishes to cancel any services provided by MMI Consultancy subsequent to payment having been made, they should do so in writing and a refund will be issued proportionate to the amount of work fulfilled by us minus an administration charge (currently £10).
MMI Consultancy reserves the right to cancel any contract at our discretion for any reason without explanation. In this case a full refund would be given to the client.
We also have the right to refuse any document if it does not meet a standard which we feel makes it possible for our proofreader to complete the work, or our proofreader reasonably believes that he or she cannot carry out the work to an acceptable standard. If our proofreader refuses to undertake the work, you will be notified via email with an explanation, and your payment will subsequently be refunded, less our administration charge.
These terms and conditions are subject to the laws of England and Wales. Both MMI Consultancy and the client agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. If any provision of these terms and conditions shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from this agreement and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
If you are unhappy with any of our services, you must communicate your grievance to us within 14 days of receiving your finished document. We will review your work by having it thoroughly checked by an additional proofreading expert to assess whether we have met our minimum service standards. Any issues will be assessed to see if the complaint is substantiated. Any substantiated complaints due to poor service will be rectified on a case-by-case basis. Any refunds or partial refunds in certain circumstances may be offered solely at our discretion. In any event, we will not be liable for damages in excess of the amount paid by a user for the service in question.
Liability And Errors
MMI Consultancy will not be liable for any loss or damage including, but not limited to, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any loss or damage whatsoever arising from loss of data or profits arising out of, or in connection with the use of this website or proofreading of your document.
We take no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, the proofreading-uk.co.uk website being temporarily unavailable due to technical issues beyond our control. It is the user’s responsibility to safeguard any original documents sent to us. We do not accept responsibility for the content of any document submitted for proofreading. We are also not responsible or liable for infringement of copyright, any defamation, or other loss or damage as a result of a proofread document.
MMI Consultancy is not liable for delays in any service provided due to unforeseen circumstances beyond its reasonable control. In the case of illness or sudden unforeseen unavailability of the proofreader responsible for your document, we will notify you as soon as reasonably practicable and re-allocate the matter to another proofreader within 24 hours. We will endeavour to ensure that the agreed timescale is maintained, however in the event that this is not possible in such circumstances, an extended deadline may be agreed by both parties. Such agreed extension will not affect the fee payable.
The document which you upload must be the final version which you want proofread. Once we have received payment and we start work on your document, any amended version which you wish us to proofread instead will incur an administration charge of £10.
Due to the nature of the English language, there is no definitive correct way to structure a sentence or style a document and as such you warrant that any amendments made in these respects is advice only. Whilst we strive to provide an accurate, thorough and reliable proofreading service, occasionally we may not correct errors simply because of oversight / human error. We will not be held liable for errors or omissions caused by your failure to communicate your requirements clearly.
Prior to using our services, student users should check their academic establishment’s rules and regulations. MMI Consultancy will not be held liable for any damages arising from our proofreading process, or any errors or inaccuracies that may appear on the website or in any document that has been subjected to our proofreading process. We reserve the right to refuse any copywriting services for student clients.
